I guess the title tells it all.
when I generate a countdown it's added to the project tree, but shows a big " invalid " on the monitor.
any idea about this?

Yes, unfortunately Kdenlive was feeding the mlt plugin a bad "resource" value. In April, I made a bug fix in the mlt plugin to reject with a bad value. I just fixed the problem in Kdenlive svn, but unfortunately, all old countdown generators will continue to be rejected. :-(
