I have used kdenlive in Ubuntu with no rendering problems.
Using 0.92 and the libraries from pacman I get the same result as I have seen elsewhere on the Internet:
rendering in any format selected only PLAYS the video/audio and the file is "null".
The render box does not close after the marker goes across.
