I bought a JVC Everio GZ-H550. The output files are MTS conforming to profile HD 1080i 50 fps.
I rendered with MPEG-4 and H264, tried bitrates from 12000 to 25000. In any case the rendered output is not as smooth as the original. It is noticeable.
I tried to convert the MTS files to mp4 using ffmpeg, same result.
I am running Suse 11.4 and KDEnlive 0.8.2
How could I get a smooth result similar to the original?

I've been looking for a sample of xvYCC for sometime, is there any chance you could offer a sample for testing in general?
Was it forcing full luma that solved your problem or forcing progressive?
Forcing "full luma" solved the problem.
The reason I tried it together with "force progressive" was, that I used to have a problem with my previous camcorder (or was is it the previous release of KDEnlive) with "wipe transitions, which were not deinterlaced.
Re sample of xvYcc, I guess the I could make a raw MTS file available...where would you suggest ?....Kdenlive Theatre ?
To your question again:
The Problem was solved by forcing "full luma" and using MPEG-4 for rendering.
Rendering with H264 (with full luma) showed jitter !
I did not bother with the other codecs.
One more observation: With my previous camcorder (also AVCHD), which I sold, I had the same problem, maybe not quite as bad (??). With some tricks using "handbrake" before editing the clips with Kdenlive gave a reasonable output.
The critical hint which made me try "full luma" came from forum member "yellow" in thread

I have the suspicion that other kdenlive users with ACVHD camcorders may have the jitter problem and may relate it to a not working deshaker and/or the output was reasonable.
re sample of xvYCC, I guess one of the file download places like www.mediafire.com which I see used a lot. I tend to just use my free web space that comes with my email account. :-)
It would be great to get a sample, thanks. It would be interesting to see why mpeg4 vs h264 (full luma) would resolve the jitter.

I just rendered the xvYCC file, unfortunately one can not see the jitter on the clip.
The previous render was with mpeg4, when rendering with H264 you will see the jitter slightly

Solved it. The recording was using xvYcc color-space.(did test without this setting before) Then I found within this forum a reference to the clip properties...to "check" "full Luma range"....so I read up on this....
Did a shot without using xvYcc colorspace, checked in "clip properties"=>"full luma range.
Rendered with MPEG-4 Bitrate 25000, scanning "auto".==> perfectly smooth.
Rendered same with scanning "force progressive" => perfectly smooth.
Rendered with H264 same old problem.
So I got my solution for the problem. Hope it will help some members of this forum !
