Summary0001368: Wrong DV aspect ratio in Kdenlive "0.7.7" (= 0.76+svn4144)
DescriptionAfter a recent upgrade of my Debian Sid system, a Kdenlive version called "0.76+svn4144-1" got installed. When launched, the application now announces itself as "Kdenlive 0.7.7" and regularly performs a file format conversion when re-opening an old project file. However, now all my DV widescreen (i.e. 16:9) clips look horizontally squeezed, as if they were in 4:3 format. (They were recorded using a PAL MiniDV camcorder set to 16:9, and all my previous projects used the DV/DVD Widescreen PAL setting. Clip frame size is 720x576, with pixel aspect ratio 1.422222, which pretty much looks like 16:9 to me.)

N.B.: This seems not to be a project file conversion problem. Neither reloading a clip nor inserting a clip into a new project does fix the problem.
Steps To Reproduce- Create a new "DV/DVD Widescreen PAL" project
- Create a (non-black!) color clip
- Insert the color clip into the timeline
- Render the project as "AVI DV"/"DV PAL 16:9"
- Add the rendered avi file as new clip
- Watch the clip in the clip monitor and note the vertical black bars left and right of the colored area
- Optional: Append the imported clip to the color clip already positioned on the timeline and watch the whole "movie" in the project monitor or after rendering to a format of your choice (e.g. the attached mpg file). Note how the colored area seems shrink horizontally at the transition of the first clip to the second.

This seems to be an MLT issue. I created a PAL wide DV file with Kdenlive, and the file plays correctly in ffplay. FFMpeg gives:

Input #0, avi, from 'untitled.avi':
  Duration: 00:00:05.15, start: 0.000000, bitrate: 29507 kb/s
    Stream #0.0: Video: dvvideo, yuv420p, 720x576, PAR 64:45 DAR 16:9, 25 tbr, 25 tbn, 25 tbc
    Stream #0.1: Audio: pcm_s16le, 48000 Hz, 2 channels, s16, 1536 kb/s
   1.62 A-V: 0.020 aq= 145KB vq= 1406KB sq= 0B 0B

Playing the file with melt gives a wrong 4:3 clip

melt -profile dv_pal_wide untitled.avi

Hi,

not sure if melt is the only trouble-maker -- yes, the AVI initially created by my "how to reproduce" steps does play correctly in ffplay and incorrectly in melt, but the DV AVIs recorded from my camcorder (which used to show up fine in Kdenlive prior to the mentioned release) are played with wrong aspect-ratio in both programs.
