| Summary | 0001725: The compositing of Vignette effect doesn't work as expected | ||||||||
| Description | I'm trying to apply an effect to a certain region of the video. I was able to to that on a rectangular region by applying the scale0tilt effect on a clip, applying another effect (eg, brightness) and compositing it with the same clip without any effect. This works but the effect gets applied "sharply" to a rectangular region which is not ideal. Better than this would be using the Vignette effect where we can select circular regions and smoothen the perimeter. However using the Vignette effect the behavior seems different: the video on the top track doesn't get composited. Instead covers the video on the next track. Please see the screenshots. | ||||||||
| Steps To Reproduce | 1. Add a clip to two tracks simultaneously 2. Apply the Vignette efect to the top clip 3. Apply another affect to the top clip (eg: add brightness) 4. Add a Composite transition to the top clip | ||||||||

Yes the vignette effect just adds a black area without any transparency. If you only want to move and scale the clip on top without cropping you can use "c0rners" (only available with a very recent version of frei0r, for pretty defaults values additionally you need kdenlive from svn) and set the smothness there. Just yesterday a new filter was added to frei0r (called alphaspot) which can draw shapes (rectangle, ellipse, triangle, diamond) in the alpha channel. Using the rectangle shape is like cropping expect you can set the smoothness. Hope this helps or at least makes some hope for the future (if you don't want to get into compiling the stuff). If I used terms you do not know just let me know so I can explain. |

Hello Till, thanks for the answer. Will it be possible to apply an effect to only a certain part of the video using this new effect you created plus Composite? Or in some other way? |

I did not write the effects. They were written by Marko Cebokli (in the Kdenlive forum as Marko). Yes you can use alphaspot the same way you described in your original post. |
