| Summary | 0001941: Replace Clips in Project Tree | ||||||||||||
| Description | Feature Request. Select a clip in the project tree and then select a replacement clip from the file system, but keeping the clip container in place on the time line and with any effects or transitions applied to it. This would be useful for replacing placeholder clips. Or, in my case recently, I had to start editing with the first version of footage while waiting for an updated version. As Kdenlive is at the moment, I would have to delete the clip from the Project Tree, which means Kdenlive will also delete it from the timeline, meaning I lose all of my work. I then have to add the new clip and replace all of the transitions and effects I lost. I know it IS possible to swap out clips from a project tree because I did it manually, and it worked. I opened up the project file in a text editor. In Kdenlive, I created a new dummy project. I added the new clip to the Project Tree and Timeline and then saved the project. I then opened this also in a text editor. I then copied the relevant lines from the new dummy project and replaced the corresponding ones in the original. I then saved the file. I opened the modified project file in Kdenlive. It worked! I had now replaced the old clip with the new, AND kept all clip containers, effects and transitions intact on the time line. This should be something I can do from a menu item and especially from a context dialogue. | ||||||||||||
