| Summary | 0002316: Sub-frame Audio Editing | ||||||||||||
| Description | Hi, I'm putting a music video together, and Kdenlive doesn't seem to allow for fine-grained adjustment of audio clip start and end points - only frame-length edits. This makes it difficult to align audio beats with video edits (especially hard cuts). Rather than using frames, it should be possible to edit the Crop start position of audio clips at a sample resolution. The interface should be at least extra resolution in the Edit duration dialog, and ideally via the GUI, e.g. by shift-dragging the clip, or using a separate "subframe" tool alongside the selection and razor tools. Here's Adobe's page about it: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60268 [^] Cheers! | ||||||||||||
| Additional Information | Workaround: Edit the audio file to add/remove some sub-frame length of time at the start of the clip. | ||||||||||||

This is not implemented in MLT yet, but it's on the roadmap: http://www.mltframework.org/twiki/bin/view/MLT/ToDo [^] (add sample accuracy to audio). |

How about this feature now? Automatic audio align also often has some annoying echo, and I can't fine tune it. Maybe someone knows some kind of workaround (effect?) to shift audio by some samples from start? (Inserting N epty sample in audio clip beginning?) |

As you know kdenlive is based on mlt and this has to be implemented in mlt fist (see todo list above). I think it is a long way until there. If you edit audio in the post you could use xjadeo player and ardour synced through jack. This means you need a rendered video (cut ready). With xjadeo you get video frame and in ardour audio frame/samples accuracy. In some circumstances (if some adjustments has to be done in video on editing audio) this process is pretty hard. At the moment I'm working on the jack for kdenlive integration. In this case you have a jack synced video timeline (kdenlive) and audio timeline e.g. ardour (audio frame precision). This is an advantage because you can make adjustments to video and audio at the same time. When its ready? Good question. I hope this year. |
