| Summary | 0002722: Proxy clip generation fails due to libmp3lame not being supported by ffmpeg | ||||||||||||
| Description | Hi, Proxy clip generation silently fails, since Ubuntu's ffmpeg ships without support for libmp3lame. When generating clips, a whole lot of jobs get started, but all of them finish immediately with no error message; restarting kdenlive and opening the project complains about 46 missing proxy clips that will be regenerated, and then the same thing happens. Could we maybe switch to mp2? And maybe there should be a visible error message somewhere when ffmpeg returns with an error code different from 0? | ||||||||||||

Is Ubuntu 10.04 correct or do you meant 12.04? I hit the same problem on 12.04 and could solve the issue by installing libavcodec-extra-53, see also the discussion here: http://www.kdenlive.org/forum/kdenlive-melt-082#comment-18791 [^] |

10.04 is correct. (I guess it's the same between 10.04 and 12.04; it's basically a political/legal issue.) libavcodec-extra-52 should probably fix the issue, yes (I wasn't aware of the package, so thanks), but in any case there should be an error message if the proxy generation fails. mp2 is the safe alternative; it's not like 128kbit/sec MP2 for the audio is so much worse than 400 kbit/sec MPEG-2 for the video =) |

Ok, I improved error messages when proxy fails, especially on KDE < 4.7 there now is a popup message. Changing the default proxy is another topic, but I agree that we could find better presets. |
