|Product Version||Recent git|
|Target Version||Fixed in Version|
|Summary||0000351: Effect list clean-up/reorganization|
|Description||At the moment (Kdenlive compiled yesterday) the effects list contains about 70 effects, and it isn't fast and easy to find which effect you want to apply and it isn't always clear what the effects do.|
I can see several changes that would make things easier, to my mind :
1 - Clean-up
There are for instance two "Brightness" effects, one keyframable and not the other, there are several audio effects that seem to be fairly identical (identical LADSPA and sox effects for instance), and the names aren't always very clear (like the G, R and B effects...).
2 - Separate completely audio from video effects
When looking for an effect, the user will always look for either a video effect or an audio effect, so I see no point in having them in the same list. Of course you can filter be effect type (video/audio/custom), but having the audio effects in a separate tab would make more sens.
3 - Sort the effects in "folders"
Like you can make folders for clips and things in the project tree, it would be quite useful to have folders for sorting effects, with a folder for Color Correction, one for deformation effects (mirror, lens correction, wave...), and most importantly one for Fun effects, which most users will never use (techroxx0r , vignette, 3dflippo etc.). Even adding filters for the various effect types in the drop down menu would be a good start.

Thanks for the suggestion!
I can see a couple of other options helping, such as instead of "folders" (like what the clip library uses) adding other categories to the effects dropdown (where we currently only have audio, video and custom). This would let us sort them into groups like the ones you suggested (eg colour correction) while still keeping it a clean, visually clear list. Obviously, people would have to be made aware that the other categories existed in the drop down somehow.
Anyway, marking as an acknowledged wished feature.
I've just seen the new effect folders that seems to have appeared recently. It isn't perfect (I was expecting the empty folders to not be displayed when selecting the "audio" or "video" filter in the drop down list), but it pretty much makes my 3rd point irrelevant.
Point 2) isn't really relevant either anymore, with the new organization being much clearer.
As for point 1) I must admit the effect names and descriptions are still a bit obscure and/or confusing, and having multiple effects for the same purpose doesn't help (what's the difference between Reverb and Sox Reverb ?)
|I will try to add more detailed descriptions of the effects.|
