Oh I forgot, I'm on Ubuntu Gutsy.

Maybe you need to install the libdv package... If that doesn't solve, try playing one of your dv file with MLT's command lione player inigo:

inigo my_video.dv

What is the result ?

PS: if you installed MLT from a package, inigo might be in another package called mlt-data or something like this.

I have the libdv package. Playing with inigo with no problems.
I compiled MLT from svn today.

Maybe there is a problem with your ffmpeg MLT producer. Can you please try playing an mpeg file with inigo to make sure you have the ffmpeg module compiled ?

Otherwise, try running kdenlive from gdb to get a better backtrace:

gdb kdenlive

then type:
run

when kdenlive crashes, go back to the terminal and type:
bt

this might give a better backtrace.

Unfortunately, I recompiled Kdenlive about a week ago and now it wont even start. I submitted another bug report here:

Hi having the same problem here, using GNOME desktop on OpenSUSE 10.3, compiled using Yast.

Inigo plays the dv file just fine, as does it mpg files. LibDV is installed.
KDEnlive crashes on both mpg and dv file import.

The output of 'gdb kdenlive' - 'run' crashes with the following information:

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
[Switching to Thread 0xb68bb6d0 (LWP 7753)]
   0x0817ae3f in ?? ()

The output of 'bt' afterwards:

   (gdb) bt
   #0 0x0817ae3f in ?? ()
   #1 0x086d3d30 in ?? ()
  # 2 0x082338f0 in ?? ()
  # 3 0x00000000 in ?? ()
   (gdb) Quit

So far tested it seems to crash on mp3, wav, mov, mpg and dv files with a signal 11(SIGSEGV) but is able to import ogg and png files.

edit - upgraded to kdenlive 0.6 (already available in YaST repositories?) and it seems to import ok now!

Closing, as reporter indicates problem has been fixed.
