|Summary||0000516: three and four point editing|
|Description||To satisfy the needs of professional editors it would be necessary to offer three and four point editing - sooner or later...|
In digital video editing, three-point editing is an editing method used to insert a clip from the source media into a destination track, which is done by setting three edit points. The first two set points define the in and out points of the clip, or the in and out points in the timeline that the clip will fit into. The third point indicates either the In or Out point for the clip (if the other tow points are in the timeline), or the in and out points in the timeline (if the other two points are in the clip).
This may imply to create such stuff like different edit modes (insert , overwrite, fit to fill,...) and a action ('send/append to active timeline-track') that execute such an edit, as well...

I'm not quite sure I understand what 3 point editing is... What exactly would have to be done in Kdenlive to allow it ?
We already have 3 point editing, but only two modes:
In clip monitor set inpoint (shortcut: i) and outpoint (o) using for example the cursor keys
Switch to timeline/project monitor (t)
Select track (up/down buttons) and inpoint (i)
Then press (Ctrl+Shift+i) for normal mode or (v) for overwrite mode.
The same can of course be done using the mouse and the first 2 buttons in the status bar. As you see insert mode is also planed.
Right so the only thing missing is insert mode ?
Acknowledging the feature request.
|Fit to gap (or Fit to fill) would also be nice.|
