0000774: .vob file playback ok for a while then BLACK screen

After testing with other DVDs .vob files it looks like this is just a specific problem with this .vob file, all the other files are playing back OK.

I might try converting it to a different format to get around this issue.

I have the same issue. I tested on a DVD containing 6 .vob files, and it happens with the 3 .vob files that have an 10.00 minute length (the other 3, of variables lenghths, are read all right, although quite slowly).

So it isn't specific to your particular .vob file. Did that file happen to be a 10.00 minute clip ?

I tested with Inigo and the file is opened and read all right (but with very jerky sound and video, whereas mplayer can read it at full speed).

The .vob I have the problem with is 5 mins, 32 secs.

The audio still runs in the background, it's just the video that plays up until a point and then goes black.

I don't even have to play the video, if I just scrub through the timeline to show the frames it goes black after a certain point. The weird thing is if I keep scrubbing back and forward it can display more and more of the .vob file.

It's basically hit or miss whether I can play back parts of this .vob file.

It seems to be a similar same problem here, except that I don't have any audio. Scrubbing also brings back more of the clip.

With Inigo the file is played (slowly) but the screen goes blank when I press L (forward 1 minute).

Getting this quite a bit now, with different .vob tracks.

Some continue playing audio, some do not.
By scrubbing back and forth I can usually get it to eventually play correctly.

How are you decrypting the DVDs to get the VOB? I have used dvdbackup in the past as well as mplayer. I want to see if there is something specific to a certain program/approach.
I just tested successfully with 3 different VOBs where 2 were decrypted with dvdbackup and one was a DVD I made a long time ago with some Windows Sonic program. One of the rips is from a film and the other from an instructional DVD.

The footage I am editing is video from motorsport events, and the DVDs are sold without any encryption.

I am just:
- copying the DVDs onto my hard drives using Nautilus
- adding the .vob files into my kdenlive project
- editing the footage in the time line

Oh, I was testing last night on a pending change to deal with periodic wild timestamps supplied from the FFmpeg libs (probably based on media timestamps) for a bug with MPEG-2 Transport Stream. Potentially, this is the same issue given the description. I will test more tonight without that change to see if I reproduce it.

I still have the same problem.

The vob file plays for a short time then the project monitor goes black.
If I scrub back and forward I can eventually reveal more and more of the vob file below.

The vob I'm having a problem with is 300MB, perhaps I could upload it somewhere for someone else to look at and use to replicate the issue ?

I would really appreciate a sample. If you can not host it yourself, then use the split command to make a 200MB segment and then upload it to rapidshare.com.

I have updated to latest svn which is stable but still having a problem with this one VOB file.

I did split the file up however the problem then can't be reproduced on the smaller files - it only happens on the full 320MB file.

The problem isn't so much a black screen now, but kdenlive stutters with the playback and then crashes every time... whether its scrubbing the clip or after dragging it to the timeline.

I downloaded the file, and I can not reproduce the problem. I am using ffmpeg v0.6 and mlt 0.5.10.
