| Summary | 0000799: auto-save feature request | ||||||||||||
| Description | I started kdenlive a few days after last using it and it prompted me with 'Auto recovery, do you wish to recover' (or similar). I said yes, and it then opened up with an invalid file, basically my whole project was corrupted. Fortunately I have very good backups (I've learnt from experience) so I just rolled back to that mornings backup of the project. Without going into the problem with the recovery as another issue I thought of a very easy way to prevent this from happening and losing some work. Could we not add a setting for number of backups to hold in addition to the auto-recovery? So that if I set it to hold 5 backups then kdenlive could rotate on save. The new project becomes .kdenlive, the next most recent copy becomes .kdenlive.1, then next is moved to .kdenlive.2, until .kdenlive.5 The last project which was .kdenlive.5 is deleted. It would then be useful when opening a file to have an option for 'rollback' or something similar, so you can go back to the next file (which might of been saved the next day, etc). If auto-save is on that could either be implemented separately or just work as expected and just push everything back, at least you would have 5 minutes worth of copies to roll back to, if the recovery failed you can select any of the other files to use. This sort of backup should handle most situations where someone hasn't got any backups of their projects. This would also handle a situation where you accidentally overwrite your own project, and then wish you could roll back a few changes. I think this would be an excellent feature to implement into kdenlive. | ||||||||||||
