In march 2012, we launched a fundraising campaign “Kdenlive refactoring ” to allow Till Theato – one of our developers – to work on Kdenlive fulltime for 2 months.
A code refactoring became necessary because we found that the architecture of Kdenlive, which reaches back to 2002, is not up-to-date anymore and discourages new developers to join our project. Additionally, new features take much longer to implement and contain more bugs than they should.
We were able to achieve our goal in very short time and at the end had received almost twice as much money as originally asked for. For us this huge support was phenomenal and we hope that every Kdenlive user will profit from the work done thanks to the campaign.
So a huge thanks goes out to everyone who donated and also to all the people who helped making our campaign more public.

I've started using Kdenlive with version 0.3, and I’ve never felt as productive as the last few years. Kdenlive is today the most stable and practical video editing software available on Linux. I mostly use it to edit music videos for my band Cool Cavemen , but I've used Kdenlive for other projects too. Kdenlive is a fantastic tool and must continue to grow, hence my donation.

I've been using Kdenlive for a few years. After getting to grips with it for a few months it quickly and completely replaced any Windows software I used to use. I primarily use Kdenlive to edit footage for my local Air Cadet Squadron, where I have volunteered for over 5 years and put these videos on their YouTube channel . With the addition of proxy clips, I can now use Kdenlive on my laptop to edit HD clips "on the fly" while we are away on trips, so there is a video to show the cadets at the end of the week, which always goes down well.
There are always great new features being added to Kdenlive, which really help with the editing process, for which I am very grateful to the developers. Best of luck with the re-factoring project!
