Join us tonight at 8PM UTC for our first Kdenlive Café of the year. Besides the usual community feedback, we’ll be sharing news about the fundraiser, 22.12 release and the roadmap for future versions.
Today we also release the 22.12 BETA, please give it a spin and let us know if you encounter any issues.

On the kdenlive-22.12-beta1.AppImage, I got the exact same Rendering crashed I have on the 22.08.3. when I add a simple Fade in.
Moreover, if I take a simple clip without any additions whatsoever and I render it, it seems to render fine until I decide to Abort job. Then I also got the same Rendering crashed.
Sadly, I don’t have any other choice but stick with 22.08.2.
AppImage on OpenSuse Tumbleweed.
Thanks for the feedback Sylvain. Does this happen with any project?
For what I’ve seen, yes. But in 22.08.3, I only got a Rendering Crashed message without any explanations in the Error Log window. However, in 22.12-beta1, I got this message:
Rendering of /home/me/Videos/untitled.mp4 crashed
mlt_repository_init: failed to dlopen /tmp/.mount_kdenlieXxqr6/usr/lib/mlt-7/libmltmovit.so (/tmp/.mount_kdenlieXxqr6/usr/lib/mlt-7/libmltmovit.so: undefined symbol: _ZN5movit6Effect12set_gl_stateEjRKNSt7__cxx1112basic_stringIcSt11char_traitsIcESaIcEEEPj)
The same goes whatever I render in mp4, webm, mkv, or mpg.
Thanks.
From the message it seems you have movit (gpu effects) on? Turn it off since it is not stable.
It’s the same in Windows 10.
I have no choice but to also return to version 22.08.2
Do you have parallel processing turned on by any chance?
Aha! Yes, it was turned on by default! And turning it off solved the Rendering crashed problem. I’m quite happy with that.
So, now I’m back to 22.08.3, 22.12-beta1 and even Nightly Builds 🙂
Thank you very much Farid!!!
same issue here… but having to turn it off is a major let down.
What would take about 10 minutes to render before, now takes over 30…
Could you help us in finding out the problem? If so, see with which effect this is happening and let us know…
Farid.. i’m pretty sure that “CROP SCALE TILT” effect is a BAD ONE
and also Sharped (the deprecated one)
Also in version 22.08.2.
Does not occur in the version 22.08.0
You may remember some time ago on the Kdenlive 21.12.2 release post back in March I mentioned a bug and posted a link to a sample video on YouTube. This was a slide show of old and new pictures in my area. On some of the fades, the picture jumps sideways slightly at the beginning and end of the fade, probably by only one pixel. This problem has continued on all subsequent Kdenlive versions and is still present on the 22.12 beta. I’ve tried compiling exactly the same stills and fades in a couple of other editors, including DaVinci Resolve, and all is OK in those, but I really prefer using Kdenlive to all of them.
The sample video is at:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQL3lc_0MEQ
You’ll see on this that the picture jumps slightly to the right at around 12 secs, and slightly to the left at around 18 secs
If it is a bug, is there any chance of a fix for this?
Please open a bug report with detailed info…
A little OT, but I see 22.08.3 is released, but I don’t see an announcement with release notes. Where may I find the 22.08.3 release notes?
If we carefully check it out, MacOS version is not out yet and is still in development. That’s probably the reason we don’t see yet an official announcement.
So, we need a little patience here.
The “Download” page (as of 2022-11-17) leads to a link for 22.08.3
It’s true only for Windows and Linux versions, not for macOS. If you hover your mouse on Intel (on a desktop/laptop), have a look at the bottom left corner. You’ll see it’s pointing to kdenlive-22.08.2.dmg.
Or, you can go directly here: https://download.kde.org/stable/kdenlive/22.08 where you will find the last macOS version was released in 2022-10-18.
OK. That’s pretty confusing. Shouldn’t the download page by default point only to actual releases that have release notes?
It doesn’t have any changes hence no release…

[ I’m making a new Comment here, even though I’m replying to Dianne because I don’t want to be “squeezed in” with too many replies ]
Usually that’s the case, but some exceptions may happen, and this is one of them.
Anyways, let’s head now to the upcoming 22.12 🙂
In my opinion, I don’t understand why Kde project release so many versions of kdenlive
and in the same time bugs keep recurring from previous versions since 21.04 until today.
I use Ubuntu 20.04 with kdenlive 21.04.3 and after testing later versions i don’t see the powerful free video editor you want to show.
So many effects are repeated or doing the same as others ( duplicate or unnecessary programming code).
Gpu rendering crash all projects and parallel processing sometimes works … and another time crash without explanation, the same with ripple and slip tool
Kde project should not release so many versions adding only effects and you should focus on solving the several bugs.
It’s my opinion because i think kdenlive it’s a good video editor but all this problems make people believe that the project it’s not a real alternative to editors like Premiere, Mac or Davinci.

I did it with kdenlive …. so the project has potential.
We have 3 major releases per year each followed by 3 minor bug fix releases. The version you are using is quite outdated and we would recommend to at least update to the next 22.12.
Ok, maybe version 21.04.3 is outdated but parallel processing works very well …. but version 22.08.3 crash when you export with parallel processing.
Why some older version works and new versions crash ?. Kdenlive 22.08.3 should be an improved version.
Kde Project should focus on solving the several bugs since the older versions because Kdenlive editor carries important problems with programming code and it will appear in the future.
It is not necessary release so many versions adding only new effects. An stronger version is the best solution.

I get blink on my video render. Blinking at first video for 4 second and at the end video

Os Linux Lite 6
For the reasons given above ( which I must admit confuse me too), there doesn’t seem to be a list available of the improvements and fixes in 22.08.3 as it doesn’t have its own release thread. Is there a list anywhere?
Hello Gary,
As Farid said, 22.08.3 doesn’t have any changes hence no release. But some will argue why release a 22.08.3 version in the Download tab if it’s the same as 22.08.2?
To answer that question, we need to know that Kdenlive is part of the KDE Community where we find many software like Dolphin, Konsole, Spectacle, Kate to name a few of them.
And it’s KDE Community who drives the version numbers. So, regardless if there have been changes or not in the source code de Kdenlive, it will necessarily follow the KDE community version numbering.
And again, as Farid said, there’s 3 major releases per year (in the KDE Community). The next one is 22.12, followed by 23.04, 23.08 and 23.12. So, keep in mind it is not only applicable to Kdenlive, but for most of the KDE Community softwares.
I hope this helps a bit for a better understanding.
Thanks, that does make it clearer. Now I’m just hoping the bug I reported gets fixed in 22.12. It’s the only thing stopping from using Kdenlive for all my editing 🙂 Keep up the good work guys.
You’re welcome. Don’t forget you can have a 22.12 preview in the beta version 🙂
https://download.kde.org/unstable/kdenlive/22.12
I’ve tried the beta, but unfortunately the little bug I reported is still there. Apart from that, it looks good.
First, thank you. It is a great effort that they make. All Kdenlive users know about the mistakes, but I have seen so much progress in the last two years that I think it is worth continuing to bet on Kdenlive and the people who work on this wonderful project.
Hello
My opinion for software improvements is to add support for FFmpeg do: BtbN ffmpeg-master-latest-win64-gpl.zip
Because the quality is better and it is a more stable build, in constant development. Or if you prefer you can use ffmpeg-n5.1-latest-win64-gpl-5.1.zip
Which is the most stable version possible and uses multiple audio and video formats for playback and conversion.
I would also like to add support for offline conversion of offline mkv and webm formats in the next version. Like for example 1080p, 2K and 4K. For 30, 60, 120 or up to 240 fps, as soon as the software supports it.
A hug.
