Better Render Presets for YouTube

The render presets for YouTube aren't very good. The quality of the output is poor.

For decent-looking HD results, I have been rendering to file in MPEG-4 format with a bitrate set at 12,000. This gives me much better quality (still not as good as other video I see on YouTube though), but the biggest problem is file size. For a 7-minute clip it's over 550 MB.

There's got to be some render settings out there that KDEnlive users are using to upload HD video to YouTube.

Please share! (and please incorporated into the KDElive presets!)

Hi there

I have submitted 5 H.264 presets recently. They are awaiting approval.

Here is one of them if you what to test one:

I named it: H.264 1280x720 HQ slow
acodec=mp2 ab=192k ar=44100 ac=2 vcodec=libx264 crf=21 rc-lookahead=40 coder=1 flags=+loop cmp=+chroma partitions=+parti8x8+parti4x4+partp8x8+partb8x8-partp4x4 me_method=hex subq=7 me_range=16 g=250 keyint_min=25 sc_threshold=40 i_qfactor=0.71 b_strategy=1 qcomp=0.6 qmin=0 qmax=51 qdiff=4 bf=3 refs=3 directpred=1 flags2=+mixed_refs+dct8x8+fastpskip+mbtree cqp=0 wpredp=2 trellis=1 weightp=2 deblock=1:0:0 direct=spatial muxer=auto aspect=%dar

Uses mp2 audio because my openSUSE 12.1 ffmpeg does not support faac and ac3 does crash some players. I think mp2 is fairly save because most ffmpeg should support that one.
I think this gives good H.264 video up to the HD 1280x720 format. Maybe higher resolution as well but I havn't tested that.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Kind regards,
Zebulon

Hello,

have a look at this Video. I left my Rendering Profile in the Description.
http://youtu.be/2V-6aFDQrn8 (no commercial, Video and Music is creative commons / GNU/PL Copyleft from me)

I will try to contribute this Profile as FullHD HQ YouTube Rendering Profile.

There are a few Problems with that Rendering Profile, but I do not know if is my graphiccard or the video itself.
I noticed some jerky behaviour, and if it getting darker the blurry part has some artefacts.
Tanks in advance for any suggestion on gaining better results in a faster time,...

Nice greetings from
yt

Here is a suggestion for HD 720p using H264 and faac.

f=mp4 acodec=libfaac ar=48000 ab=128k ac=2 vcodec=libx264 minrate=0 b=5000k flags=+loop me_method=umh g=250 qcomp=0.6 qmin=10 qmax=51 qdiff=4 bf=3 b_strategy=1 i_qfactor=0.71 cmp=+chroma subq=8 me_range=16 coder=1 sc_threshold=40 flags2=+bpyramid+wpred+mixed_refs+dct8x8+fastpskip keyint_min=25 refs=3 trellis=1 directpred=3 partitions=+parti8x8+parti4x4+partp8x8+partb8x8 aspect=%dar

If you don't have libfaac, you can change to use libmp3lame.

Hope it can help (let me know).

Hi yt

Thanks for sharing this.
My H.264 rendering profiles are approved - J.

Would be interesting to see how they work in comparison to your setting with the same clip.

Just a suggestion.

Kind regards,
Zebulon

Hi zebulon,

EDIT >
maybe I´m I was not focused enough ... , but I find it difficult to find your setup among all others, but that is not your fault. Kdenlive should give more Information in the Rendering selection. I think this is really annoying.

I've found your mp2 setup above tomorrow morning. I will do a rendering test right now.

Your Setup ist for 1280x720, so I have to scale my Movie. That´s ok for a test, but the default scaling of Kdenlive isn´t that nice. I prefer the Lanczos method. Every scaling gives a slight blur on the edges.
I will upload all the stuff to my server, as soon as possible.
I will make a package including the original scene.

I think this scene isn´t the best material to do test renderings, but on the other hand, usually I have no perfect Clips :) so it is a good average test.

yours truly,
yt

@Zebulon

Your Profile dosn´t produce a viewable result on my Ubuntu 11.04. I´m try to fix this atm. There is no error message, just a very small output file and a black screen.

Thanks for these, guys. I will be creating a new video on Wednesday and will try rendering with your profiles to see what happens.

Hi yt

Sorry to hear with the problems you have.
I have opensuse 12.1 64 bit and no problems with the profiles.

Sorry for my long silence. I was traveling.
