Having Troubles Importing Clips[solved]

Recently I just updated from 0.8.8 to 0.9.4. Right from the start however, I've been experiencing a major problem. Whenever I try to import a clip into my project the clip is copied to the Kdenlive clip folder. If I try again it tells me I'm trying to replace the same clip and I need to give it another name. I've tried importing the copied files from the clip folder but it just does the same thing. Am I doing something wrong? How do I fix this?

How did you update from 0.8.8 to 0.9.4 and what distro are you using?

I currently use Ubuntu 12.04. I initially installed 0.8.8 from the Software Center and then updated using

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:sunab/kdenlive-release && sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install kdenlive

First, I think you should try to delete the Kdenlive config file:

rm $HOME/.kde/share/config/kdenliverc

If that doesn't solve your probIem, read below:

I don't really understand, your description.

1 - how do you try to import a clip? (you can see a tutorial here: http://userbase.kde.org/Kdenlive/Manual/QuickStart#Adding_clips )

2 - "the clip is copied to the Kdenlive clip folder" What is the Kdenlive clip folder? There is no such thing in Kdenlive...do you mean that the video clip is physically copied from it's original place to a new location? Are your source clips on a removable media?

My terminal says the file doesn't exist. When accessing the Kdenlive folder there is a sub-folder labeled "clips". My source clips are technically on a flash drive, however, I run my whole operating system off of my flash drive.

Hmm, ok I understand better. That is a rather unusual setup.
When trying to add clips from a removable drive, Kdenlive asks if you want to copy the clip to the project folder, continue or cancel.

In your case, since the OS is on a flash drive, just click continue and you should be fine. If you don't see the dialog, remove the Kdenlive config file as I said in my previous comment and on the next Kdenlive startup the dialog should be shown again.

Copying the clips to your project folder might fail because of a lack of space or permission problem...

Okay, thank you for all of your help. In the end I did a reboot of the software and it ended up working once I reset it so that it would only go on okay rather than transferring all of the files to a separate folder. Once more I really appreciate you taking your time to help.
