Following our last week’s monthly Café, we decided to concentrate on advanced trimming features and if possible an audio mixer for the next Kdenlive 16.12 release. It was also mentionned that several users requested the comeback of the rotoscoping effect, which was lost in the KF5 port, preventing some users to upgrade their Kdenlive version.
So good news, I worked on it and rotoscoping is now back in git master, will be in the 16.12 release.
On the stability side, we just fixed a packaging issue on our PPA that caused frequent crashes, so if you experienced issues with our PPA, please update to enjoy a stable Kdenlive.
Next Café will be on the 19th of October, at 9pm (Central European Time). See you there!

Wish: I’d love to see the Ken Burns effect for a slide show implemented. Is that possible / maybe already on the to-do list?
Isn’t there a ‘Zoom and Pan’ effect already?
It’s already available for a long time, please see the Kdenlive user documentation: https://userbase.kde.org/Kdenlive/Manual/Projects_and_Files/Clips#Slideshow_clips
An older bug has been fixed, https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=352407, make sure you are using 16.04 and later. 16.08.1 is recent as of this writing.
Niiice! It’s great to see rotoscoping come back again! Great work!
However, I just updated from the PPA (kdenlive-stable) to check the fix and seems it’s not yet there, isn’t it? Do you have an estimate of how long for the fix to be available?
Also, I looked into the bug reports to see the documentation for the fix and could not find it. Is this the right bug report? https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=358223 – I am quite curious to see the pull request that fixed that problem.
As Jean-Baptiste wrote above, rotoscoping won’t be back in the stable releases before 16.12.0. If you need to get it earlier, you’ll need to sell your soul, as well as your mother-in-law, before installing the unstable development version. However, things may break at any time when using the development version, up to loss of data. Seriously. Don’t tell us that you don’t have been warned.
Yeeessss! Rotoscoping back! This is a great feature.
Where is the place to suggest feature request?
I took a while wishing to suggest a feature, which I think is important for video editing.
Thanks for the work they do.
Ryu, you can go to the KDE tracker and submit a feature request in the Kdenlive section. Also if you wish to discuss it first you can post in the official Forum or G+ communities.
Take care
Thank you. I will try to express the feature I want in “Kdenlive General Discussion”.
Many thanks for reply, and them want it better.
When will launch the version for windows?
We do not have an estimate time of arrival yet. Keep an eye on the website for more news on this issue.
Please do not waste time on non-free Operating Systems, instead please try to make the current version ROCK STABLE. It is extremely important for creative work to have STABLE and ROBUST software, thanks!

You can use the tracker for that:

Also you can share your request with other community members at the official forums:

Or at the G+ community:

Can’t wait to get the advanced trimming features, is there an estimate by when they will be available?
Hi Bruno,
They are on the roadmap for the 16.12 release but they will probably be production-ready by 17.04. (This is just an ETA.)
