Refactoring
If you were waiting for the refactoring version, we’re afraid you’ll have to wait a bit longer. We decided to postpone it for the 19.04 release cycle which will give us more time to polish all the edges and add some new nifty features.
- We now have a nightly build system so you can try all the latest features;
- Among the highlights since the last release;
- Added parallel processing feature for render speed improvements;
- Added hardware acceleration for proxy clip creation;
- Blackmagic Design decklink output is back;
- The Speed effect has been reintroduced;
- Made keyframe improvements and timeline clip keyframeable GUI.
Please help us test and report your feedback in the comments. Get it!

After the bug squashing day an interested developer joined the the team and is fixing MOVIT (GPU effects) support. We are very happy to see more people interested in contributing code to the project. Check out our Junior Jobs list and send your patches.
On the Windows front, we have implemented many improvements, among them the hanging process on exit is fixed but more on that next week. 😉
The team has also started brainstorming the interface redesign. You can follow the progress (and contribute) in this refactoring task.
Great! Thank you very much. It’s highly appreciated, but where can we download it? It’s not here : https://files.kde.org/kdenlive
Done! Thanks!
Is there any intention to make time-line audio spliting optional.
I believe many users find it very annoying.
Regards.
agree, not always it is needed, but really annoying
Nope, in the refactoring version audio and video tracks will always be separate.
Not so happy, no windows version as I understand.I wonder how many windows users are out there or is this more Linux community?
I am win user and I am desperately waiting for fixing of hanging on exit and blocking of UI after hibernation.
Already fixed. Check it out: https://files.kde.org/kdenlive/unstable/Kdenlive-18.12.0-w64craft.7z
Although you might want to look here as well: https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=269&t=156331
Thank you 🙂
Superb reliable software. Many thanks to all devs and people who assist.
I just tried the version 18.12.0 (Windows 10) and it is frankly disastrous: unstable and removed all the themes of the previous version.
As mentioned here https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=269&t=156331 the Windows version it’s not finished. A stable version is coming in the next days.
Here you can find the latest version: https://files.kde.org/kdenlive/release/kdenlive-Applications_18.12-9b7b423f2-windows-mingw_64-gcc.exe.mirrorlist
(The themes are still missing though, it will be fixed soon.)
Hello, this is great!
I was waiting for the new version to be available with the latest kde apps packages in neon, but it isn’t available yet, so I checked the Appimage build, and noticed there’s the first release with similar file size to previous versions, a more recent b version with a smaller size, but works as well as the original, and today I noticed a c version with a bigger file size.
I tested this one too, but it isn’t working at all, it says there is some problem with the appimage:
“Something went wrong trying to read the squashfs image. (…)”
What are the differences between these 3 builds?
I’ve been testing the refactor build too, and one thing that has been bothering me is the flood of this message in the terminal:
kf5.kio.core: couldn’t create slave: “Can not find io-slave for protocol ‘thumbnail’.”
Hundreds of lines of this message show up when launching the appimage, could this be an issue with my system?
Keep up the great work!
About the different versions, they are releases with small fixes. The c version is the latest and should fix some theme issues. Try downloading it again it seems to be an unfinished download issue.
The refactoring version is still under heavy development so please give it a test, try to crash it and let us know. As for the messages don’t worry about those for the time being.
Cheers
I did download it again and it is working fine, thank you! The mirror was still syncing the file, I think.
I will start using the refactored version more and report any crashes I find.
On an unrelated issue, is there any plan to add keyframes to lift gamma gain?
And can the effects with the table like keyframing system be ported to the new keyframe time line system? Is it something that can be updated on the xml for the effect?
Run the Appimage from the terminal (press CTRL + ALT + T). Move to the AppImage folder and run the .AppImage: ./Kdenlive*.AppImage
Thank you Merlimau, my issue was a different one, due to the file being incomplete in the mirror I used, as farid said, but thank you for your tip!
I use Yakuake for an always available terminal! 🙂
Where do I get the 18.12 release on Windows? It gives a 404 from the link on the download page…
There you go: https://files.kde.org/kdenlive/release/kdenlive-Applications_18.12-9b7b423f2-windows-mingw_64-gcc.exe
Updated the link 🙂
I am interested in this program, but I need to know if KDENLIVE can import .MKV and .WEBM videos…. Thanks
Kdenlive (indirectly) makes use of ffmpeg. So you need to check your installed `ffmpeg -codecs` for the authoritative answer, more so as you did not specify the os and distro you’re using.
Without guarantee, webvm and mkv should work, but as these are container formats, there might be unsupported codecs inside. So, you need to check with your concrete video clips anyway.
MKV and WEBM should work. Tested on Kdenlive Windows 18.12.0, Kdenlive AppImag 18.12.0 and Kdenlive Refactoring_Timeline (Nightly Build 15. Dec 18)
I´m new with this program.
I have a question about video-bitrates: How can I render a video to MP4 with bitrate 9000kb/s.
I don´t know how to render with a desired bitrate.
So, no help.
create a custom render profile and add the parameter: maxrate=9000k. more details see here: https://userbase.kde.org/Kdenlive/Manual/Project_Menu/Render#Create_Custom_Render_Profiles and here https://userbase.kde.org/Kdenlive/Manual/Project_Menu/Render/Render_Profile_Parameters
The word “professional” is spelled wrong on the Kdenlive website, on the Features subpage.
Thank you. Corrected.
Hello,
There’s something wrong with the new kdenlive-18.12.0d-x86_64.appimage. The server says it’s a 220M file but when we download it, it’s only a 140M file.
Thanks.
It’s OK now.
Thanks.
I think it has a problem with the windows version (and maybe also the Linux), but the .jpg images do not appear in the render.
I have that too, do you get a white image instead of the jpg too?
I also get an error while trying to export the WAV from a file:
/usr/bin/ffmpeg: /tmp/.mount_kdenlizr1cKF/usr/lib/libdbus-1.so.3: no version information available (required by /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libjack.so.0)
/usr/bin/ffmpeg: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/librsvg-2.so.2: undefined symbol: pango_fc_font_map_set_config
Solved by reverting to the Appimage ffmpeg. It was using the system ffmpeg binary for some reason. 🙂
I don’t understand what we need to do on Windows
Neither dark themes appear!
Uncheck ‘Force Breeze Icons’ and it should work
it works very well in version 18.12.1
Where can I find a PPA for 18.12 for Ubuntu Studio Linux?
Better to get the AppImage from the download section.
The link in the download section hasn’t been completely updated yet. It’s still pointing towards the old “C” version (kdenlive-18.12.0c-x86_64.appimage), even if it seems updated in the text. Check this out.
It’s better to get it directly: https://files.kde.org/kdenlive/release/
Solved. I updated all AppImage links to version e.
Thank you very much!
Is it normal that LUTs do not work on Windows or I do something wrong.
“Apply LUT” with a LUT file should work with Windows 1.12.1. All other LUT’s don’t’ work.
This is the best part: “an interested developer joined the the team and is fixing MOVIT (GPU effects) support”
Thank you, interested developer!!!
