After many delays, we finally think the Timeline Refactoring branch is ready for production. This means that in the next days major changes will land in Kdenlive’s git Master branch scheduled for the KDE Applications 19.04 release.
A message to contributors, packagers and translators
A few extra dependencies have been added since we now rely on QML for the timeline as well as QtMultimedia to enable the new audio recording feature. Packagers or those compiling themselves, our development info page should give you all information to successfully build the new version.
We hope everything goes smoothly and will be having our second sprint near Lyon in France next week to fix the remaining issues.
We all hope you will enjoy this new version, more details will appear in the next weeks.
Stay tuned!
For me as a simple user this message is a bit confusing. Hoping for a new -stable- release on March 7th as marked in your calendar, one news tells us something about complexity of testing and the other merging is in progress.
I know that a lot work is done in free time.
I would like to know:
– what is your time line (regarding stable releases)?
– features and performance (compared to version 18.xx)?
I know how hard it is working on a project like kdenlive. My respect on your energy.
But please understand me: I can’t read where and when is version 19.xx landing?

If you haven’t followed development status, currently there are two branches of Kdenlive, the stable and refactoring. Lately all development focus has been on the refactoring branch, which is basically a rewrite of the timeline code bringing more stability. What this post announces is that for the 19.04 release cycle we will merging the refactoring code into the master branch.
As for dates, we follow KDE’s release schedule. You can find more information here: https://community.kde.org/Schedules/Applications/19.04_Release_Schedule
So we should expect the refactored timeline to be available in the stable branch around April 18th? Thanks so much.
Yes!
Fantastic 🙂 Will there be any issues with reading projects saved on older versions??
At least none of my old projects made with Kdenlive 18.12.1 or older open up at all with the fresh Kdenlive 19.04.0 appimage.
I am also a simple user. And looking at release calendar I just don’t understand. There was scheduled release of 18.12.3 on march 7th, but inside download section is still 18.12.1 ? I am really happy about the app, I don’t want to push, just try to understand.
PS. I would be also happy about some simple way to receive news, I tried to subscribe to news but I would need to create an account … too complicated, could be another way with a normal mailing list, or simple FB page
Great work Guys!
I have tested it a bit and it looks quite stable to me. Is there any chance, any time soon, to have 10bit processing into Kdenlive?
Technically this has to be implemented in MLT, which is the multimedia framework we use as our video processing engine.
Is the any plans on gpu support
