Version 21.12.0 when released was the worst for me, nothing worked… absolutely nothing!
My hope was updates like this 21.12.1
Since the 6th I was monitoring the launch for download and installation. Another disappointment followed by tears… nothing still works, not even exporting a frame from the project monitor works, the frame seems to zoom and the image is not saved nor incorporated into the project… LUTs keep doing the Kdenlive crashes… The AI based tracking for me does nothing, no analysis is performed… The new cutting tools looked like they would work but I can’t drag the clip, it doesn’t move… The rest honestly I stopped testing… The options are to give up Kdenlive or go back to 21.08.3 once more
I guess you are on Windows. Thanks for reporting. Under DirectX frame extraction from the project monitor doesn’t work. Change the backend to OpenGL it works. I test the Windows version before uploading including motion tracker. Goto help -> Reset configuration and try again.
Hi Merlimau, thanks for your help.
I did as you taught and now I can extract frames normally, including using the extract option for the project. Thank you very, very much for that!!!
But as for the DaSIAM tracking algorithm it still does nothing, it doesn’t analyze.
As for LUTs, I had tested something yesterday and it worked, I don’t know if it would be useful for you to analyze. Just trying to choose a LUT aborts Kdenlive. So I did the following: I clicked the download button and installed Lut CELLULOID_01_FU_LOW.cube this automatically makes it enter the Luts selection box every time you choose the Apply LUT effect and kdenlive automatically applies Lut. From that point on you can switch to any Lut you have on the machine without breaking Kdenlive – perhaps the problem is filling the dropdown list via the Open dialog. The Ripple Tool already worked but I haven’t tested it with clips that have been cut yet (in my humble opinion I think it might make a difference on clips that have been cut before using the Ripple Tool in terms of working correctly).
Unfortunately, everything else doesn’t work for me, including the slide tool that looks like it’s going to work, but the selected clip doesn’t move and nothing happens.
Sorry for the long text, I thank you so much, it gave me some hope. I really have a lot of affection for the project and for all of you. I said this once and I’ll repeat it… You don’t know how the videos that Kdenlive (all of you) helped to edit could also help save/change lives. I am eternally grateful for that!
Slip works only if the clip has some frames left on each side. See here: https://docs.kdenlive.org/de/cutting_and_assembling/editing.html?highlight=slip#slip-tool
super program
Thanks! If you start the project from scratch, then the editor works fine!
Please note that something broke when encoding with VAAPI. The beta version worked correctly.

Hello everyone
Extract frame or extract frame to project still doesn’t work in a project monitor but does on a clip monitor even after a “Reset configuration” on windows 11.
Otherwise everything else looks right.
good job guys…. thx !
Hello Arthur, I was like that too and Merlimau taught me what to do. It worked for me and I hope it works for you too. I’ll repeat here an excerpt of what Merlimau taught and you test it, OK?!
Merlimau: Under DirectX frame extraction from the project monitor doesn’t work. Change the backend to OpenGL it works. I test the Windows version before uploading including motion tracker. Goto help -> Reset configuration and try again

Hi Coffee Lover, thanks it works now.
Didn’t know where to change to OpenGL but finally I find out .. it’s in the Setting menu ! and thanks to Merlimau …. Merci Merlimau et Coffee Lover, ça fonctionne super !
I’m glad it works for you too. Sorry, I could have pointed out the way to make the change. My fault, sorry.
Hi everyone,
So nice to have a GPL editing software with a very dynamic developement.
I will try this update because I kept version 21.08.3 because 21.12 didn’t work very well for me.
Do you plan to focus on nested timeline in the next releases ? I imagine that’s not easy to implement but it’s a really an essential feature.
Effects like motion tracking or time remapping can be done in other software (like Blender or Natron) but specific editing feature like a stable and robust timeline that can be nested can’t. And it’s almost impossible to edit consequent footage without it.
Thank you so much.
Yes, nested timeline is on the roadmap for this year. I think more for (EDIT) 22.08 as we have to make the project file check more robust.
It’s impossible to read your comment and let go of so much selfishness and arrogance. Kdenlive is a high quality software, with extremely qualified people working and thank God they are not selfish like you.
Developed with the thought of being able to run on machines with lower performance, it allowed a lot of video editing by many people.
If you have specific conditions and needs, they are yours alone and it is you who should look for the solution for them and not want the software to adapt to you (that’s what professional video editors do and don’t keep crying and wanting things to change for their needs just like you). So if you can, install Blender or Natron or whatever and don’t want to cut down on other resources by dictating what’s important or not in video editing, which by the way, you probably don’t know very well. Just a help for you to qualify better… motion tracking and time remapping ARE NOT EFFECTS and are used a lot in video editing (but you don’t understand that).
The world gets worse every day thanks to selfish worms like you, who only think of having their desires fulfilled and never mind the needs of other people. You shouldn’t be using free and open source software… you don’t deserve it.
Go look for the qualifications and skills to solve your needs, these are things that normal people do, but selfish worms like you prefer to act like that.
I hope this little moral lesson makes you think, but I doubt it very much… selfish worms don’t think, they wait for others to give them the solution.
Dear Coffee Lover,
You interpreted my comment as negative. Obviously, I find Kdenlive to be brilliant software. I use it in my video workshop and these remarks (which I didn’t mean to be derogatory – maybe because English is not my main language) are shared with my colleagues (editors) and my students. We have been using Kdenlive for over 5 years and I am happy as a teacher that I can rely on software that allows students to access editing software that runs on low performance computers. These are not selfish considerations but rather a observation of what people around me think about it as editors.
I am very much aware of the workload involved in developing such software and we are fully grateful to the development team.
Hi, please no need for such a brash reaction. No need to be so harsh.
In the release announcement (dated 2021-08-16) for Version 21.08, it was stated that ‘We do not recommend to open old projects with Kdenlive 21.08 due to the aforementioned changes’. I assume that this is still the case for Kdenlive 21.12 and 21.12.1. How should I go about updating an old project (created using Version 19.12.3) so that it can safely be opened (and subsequently maintained) with the current version of Kdenlive?
Yes, you should do a project always with the same version from begin to end. Kdenlive gives you the opportunity to have standalone versions you can download and backup with your project in case of later changes.
Linux: take the Appimage: https://download.kde.org/stable/kdenlive/, older than 21.04: https://files.kde.org/kdenlive/release/
Windows: take the standalone: https://download.kde.org/stable/kdenlive/, older than 21.04: https://files.kde.org/kdenlive/release/
Even though 21.08 was a great release, I think that you wanted to say 22.08 instead 🙂
If you’re referring to my comment of 2022-01-09 then no, I meant 21.08, the release announcement for which is at ‘https://kdenlive.org/en/2021/08/kdenlive-21-08-is-out/’.
By the way, when replying to a previous comment it would be helpful to use the ‘Reply’ box rather than the ‘Submit a Comment’ box to make it clear to which comment you’re referring. 😉
@LJN –> No, it was Merlimau’s post and I think he understood it because he edited his post 🙂
And I *did* use the “Reply” box (like I’m doing now). but the Captcha didn’t work and force me to go back on the page, then “Submit”, hence that post.
And it didn’t work again. I got this message:
Error: You have entered an incorrect reCAPTCHA value.
Click the BACK button on your browser and try again.
It’s not my first post here, far from that and it used to work well.
Hello and thank you again for another release.
I am having a slight issue I am afraid with Monitor > Switch Monitor Fullscreen.
I did this on the Clip Monitor and I got a full screen view. However when I press L (Play) the Editing (the current View > Load Layout) appears and hides the clip (full screen) which is playing behind it.
Shall I fill in a Bug Report?
Kind regards
Stephen
Hi
I’m not sure if my comment posted or is waiting for a moderator, but it’s been a day or two now.
It wasn’t a criticism. Just an adverse change to Switch Monitor Full Screen. 🙂
Congratulations, this programme is getting better every day. Running on Debian Testing.
Not mentioned in the release notes, bug 439 (slow timeline with long thumbnails) is fixed for me, and when you limit the number of audio tracks, only those tracks are now thumbnailed.
In fact, I can likely finally move off of 18.12.
That’s good to know. Feel free to comment in the issue as well. 😉
Na torcida pela equipe do Kdenlive se aperfeiçoarem cada vez mais no sistema Windowns. Serão os primeiros… Deve nada para adobe. Parabéns a todos os desenvolvedores!!
May the program be faster than this
But I don’t know how to stick text in the program.
You can add a title clip for that.
small thing but it’d be cool if we get more title formatting options. like text stroke, glow, better shadow options, etc. that would be great :))
There are plans to rewrite the Titler and add more powerful options but it is a low priority at the moment since there are more important tasks first to do. Unless someone would like to help with that. 😉
Its a great software i have been used. Thanks
On windows 11, the video stutters and proceeds so we are unable to edit it. The smoothness on windows 10 is not there and it is burning a lot of system process.
Please test the following: goto setting -> configure Kdenlive -> Audio -> Audio driver -> try each of the setting. Maybe you have to restart Kdenlive to see an effect.
I’m loving the frequent updates, I’m going to have to wait until the next build because I am on Windows. Keep up the the good work!
Many thanks for another versions. This sw is great, and improving every version!
Hello Kdelive dev team. I’m curious if anybody’s noticed that the transform effect no longer has the position tool the (red outline)to move objects into new places. I’ve noticed this for a couple of versions and I know it can’t be me because it just stopped working a few versions back…
Anyway thanks to the dev team for all the hard work and the new tools that are being added. I’ve been using Kdenlive since 2010 and I loved it all along, it’s just that some of the things that are being added are possibly breaking others. Thanks in advance.
Just a heads up about my comment above… I dloaded the appimage from the experimental [Artifacts of Kdenlive_Nightly_Appimage_Build #1165] via and the position tool works just fine and dandy! Hope this helps anyone else who is missing this feature!
Thanks be to KDElive devs!
Please note, in this beautiful editor, the indicator of the last channel did not fit into the sound mixer. Only a piece of the peak is visible. The sound itself is processed correctly. Thank you again for your hard work!
P.S. This is for a 6-channel audio mode.
Thanks to the developers for their work! Now updated the version of Windows to 21.12.1 and has assembled a couple of projects.
According to many years of habit, during the installation process it was constantly preserved after each action, but the project never fell. Full HD 50 fps sources.
However, he found a couple of problems. I figured out one, I study the second.
The first problem is the addition of Image Sequence to the project. If non-Latin characters such as Cyrillic are found in folder names in the picture location path, you cannot add the object to the project. Error.
The second problem is related to the assembly. Tried to encode in h264 and in x265. The project is going, but in the final writes a mistake. Although the file output is working. Unless there is a problem with some files in playback on cheap Chinese TV consoles – players.
Again, thanks to the developers! Best regards! You make the world and people better!
Sorry, for my english. )
Спасибо разработчикам за их труд! Сейчас обновил версию Windows до 21.12.1 и собрал пару проектов.
По многолетней привычке, в процессе монтажа постоянно сохранялся после каждого действия, но проект ни разу не упал. Исходники Full HD 50 fps.
@Admin = there is a problem with the Linux Daily builds. Normally, they should be pointing to “x86_64.appimage”, but they are pointing out to “appimage-centos7”.
We have to go from https://binary-factory.kde.org directly and find out the kdenlive x86_64.appimage manually.
Thanks.
The daily build for linux is showing CentOS build instead of the 22.03.70 builds.
21.12.2 is available on the download page, but not mentioned anywhere on the website.
fixed
Great stuff. Thanks for all your hard work. I’ve tried all of the free video editors and kdenlive is by far the best.
